In the Midst of Darkness . . . There is HOPE!

Right now the darkness over our nation has reached a new intensity. But just as the stars shine the brightest on the darkest of nights, the ‘Lord of all Hopefulness’ still reigns and His Star is still guiding those who choose to follow Him – even in the midst of extreme darkness.

The Peace of Jerusalem

The Psalmist urges us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6-9). As wars rage around Israel we are having to face the reality that these prayers will only be fully answered when the Prince of Peace returns to Jerusalem as prophesied in Zechariah 14.

A Heart-Broken Remnant Rises to its Calling

My wife, Fiona, bought a bag of remnants – off-cuts of little obvious use or value – from the Harris Tweed shop, as a present for a very creative friend. The next time we saw her she was wearing an amazing jacket, entirely made up of remnant pieces of Harris Tweed cloth, which had been carefully sewn together to provide a unique and warm item of clothing.

Veterans in the Front Line – Easter Message 2024

He is risen! Oh what a glorious message – and it’s true! May the joy of the resurrection be yours this Eastertide.

When Jesus rose from the dead a trumpet call went out from Jerusalem which heralded the birth of the church. The end times had begun and they won’t be over until Jesus comes again and puts His feet down in Jerusalem on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4). Between now and then we have work to do!

THE COMING TSUNAMI

Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes under the sea. When the geological foundations of the world shift suddenly, waves of unstoppable power are the result. People playing on the beaches, unaware of what’s happening and ignorant of any warnings, are suddenly and catastrophically swept away.

“TOP-DOWN” OR “BOTTOM-UP”?

“How do I tell the Bishop, God has moved the goalposts?” Stephen’s question was mouthed through smiles of joy as he climbed out of the swimming pool, having just been baptized.

NEW YEAR – NEW OPPORTUNITIES!

At critical moments in my life God has brought key books to my attention, and an urgency in my spirit has compelled me to read them. Some have been, quite literally, life-changing, life-enabling and life directing.

Lance Lambert’s book ‘Jacob I Have Loved’ is the latest in a long list of priceless books which God has used in this way. The theme of the book is ‘The Power of God to Transform a Human Life’, as seen in the life of Jacob (Sovereign World, 2007). The book has been on my shelves, unread, for fifteen years. I have passed that shelf many times each day, for at least 5000 days!

I could have limited this Advent message to the usual Happy Christmas greetings!  It’s not that I wouldn’t want to wish you all a very happy Christmas, I do, but these are very serious times. Indeed, for believers these are critical days, as I have been at pains to emphasise in my recent Blogs.

FROM MESS TO MIRACLES

The world is in an unprecedented mess. All the things that Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24 for the end of the age are happening around us. We are being catapulted from one event to another in a never ending sequence of tragic events. This is no longer the page-turning dramas of a gripping novel. It’s for real!
