Peter Horrobin

Towards the end of 2022, Peter Horrobin began a series of Blogs which have tracked his personal journey of understanding of the End-Times Church and which are now foundational to the work of Gates of Hope International.

FROM MESS TO MIRACLES

The world is in an unprecedented mess. All the things that Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24 for the end of the age are happening around us. We are being catapulted from one event to another in a never ending sequence of tragic events. This is no longer the page-turning dramas of a gripping novel. It’s for real!

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS

In 1898 H.G.Wells impacted the world with one of the first and, arguably, one of the finest science fiction novels. For the past 125 years it has never been out of print! Wells’ plot postulated that “across the gulf of space . . . intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.”

When The War of the Worlds was serialised for broadcasting forty years later, such was the impact of Wells’ Martian invasion that it “caused panic among listeners who did not know that the events were fictional.”

THESE ARE THE DAYS OF DANIEL!

In my last blog, I referred to the times we are now living through as being like ‘the days of Daniel’. Back in 1997, Robin Mark’s brilliant song ‘These are the days of Elijah’ had believers singing with joyful anticipation of the coming again of the Lord, and preparing for the days of harvest before His return.

WHERE THE LORD WALKS – STORMS ARISE

Saturday the 7th October 2023 will, forever, be etched on the corporate memory of both Israel and the world. More Jews were killed on this one day than at any other time since the holocaust. As I write this, the world is sitting on the edge of its seat, as cataclysmic events unfold in Israel, the epicentre of spiritual earthquakes.

HATED?

In the end-times we will need to get used to the fact that Jesus was right! Believers who remain faithful to Jesus and the Word of God will be under constant attack from the liberal wokery that is now prevalent across society, and which it is so easy for the church to bow down to, in an attempt to make itself acceptable to an unbelieving world. Sadly, compromising on truth only makes the church less noticeable and less relevant, as the borderlines between faith and apostasy become ever more blurred.

END-TIMES CHURCH

I was not only amazed by the number of responses to my last Blog article, but also impacted by the remarkable spiritual depth in some of your replies. Thank you for adding such rich contributions to what is a vital discussion for today’s church. I wish I had the capacity to answer each one in detail.

LOCKED OUT! BUT WHY?

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20)

I’ve heard many sermons in which Revelation 3:20 is quoted with great certainty and joy – usually in the context of Jesus standing outside the door of a person’s life. It’s a wonderful Gospel truth and countless unsaved people have heard Jesus knocking, responded to this eternal message and welcomed Jesus into their lives. Precious though that message is, it is not the context of what Jesus told John to write about in the book of Revelation.

DANGER! GOD WILL NOT BE THWARTED

I love the book of Esther! Those extraordinary words about her being there “for such a time as this” are endlessly quoted across the Body of Christ. But, as so often happens, the whole context of the Scripture is rarely understood or appreciated. I have just been prompted to read the book of Esther again and found myself being suddenly, and deeply, alerted to a profound lesson as I read the whole verse which contains these words.

WAKE UP! THERE’S A WAR ON

The spiritual temperature of the world is hotting up. Every day that passes closes the gap between now and the Lord’s return. It’s impossible to read the prophetic passages about the events at the end of the age, without concluding that the battleground of the ages is being prepared. But at the same time I see a church that is woefully ill-equipped for an imminent war that few seem to want to understand or fight in.

WATCHING AND WAITING

It’s now nine months since I stepped down as the International Director of Ellel Ministries. But there is no retirement from being a follower and servant of the King, so I have been watching and waiting to see in what direction God would lead me.
